It’s Foaling Time!
01.04.10
January is here and many mare owners are anxiously awaiting their 2010 foal. Our first foal here at the ranch is due the 13th of this month. (Lucky number 13!) But this mare always goes late…at least by two weeks, and foals between 3 am and 5 am. I have my foaling kit ready and my vet’s number programmed in my cell phone, and I am ready for many sleepless nights and constant worry.
No matter the worry or lack of sleep I love this time of year no matter if were foaling or when we were calving. The babies make it all worthwhile, then the work really begins… halter training, learning to lead, etc. The best part is watching the foals out in the pasture learning the dynamics of their herd.
So to everyone that has a mare in foal this year let me know your experiences.
